The Gluttonous Mountain
The Gluttonous Mountain
Starts: 00:00
Ends: 3 november 2024 - 23:59
Location: NP3, Hofstraat 21, 9712 JA Groningen, Netherlands
Description: The Gluttonous Mountain by Jurjen Galema
July 1 – November 3, 2024 In the window exhibition space DISplay On show 24/7, visible from the St. Walburgstraat NP3 | RE:Search:Gallery
In 2021, Jurjen Galema developed his long-term concept The Seven Deadly Sins within the Young Grunn Artist III programme. His concept is inspired by the 14th-century book La Divina Commedia (The Divine Comedy) by the Italian writer Dante Alighieri. Since then, Jurjen has transformed five of the seven sins into impressive soft sculptures. The latest in the series is The Gluttonous Mountain, commissioned by Into Nature for the VAM-berg. A striking, colorful fabric artwork of a sleeping three-headed dog inspired by Cerberus, a creature from the Greek mythology, based on the sin gluttony. Unlike Dante’s depiction of Cerberus as a bloodthirsty creature that prevents the gluttons from escaping the third circle of hell, Jurjen transformed this creature into a large, soft sculpture that materialises its presence in our earthly realm.
In 2022, Jurjen transformed NP3 | MOBi into Le Lola Nightclub, an exhibition and events. Le Lola Nightclub was inspired by the deadly sins of pride and lust.
In 2023, Jurjen created the work House of Sloth for the Terug naar het Begin Festival, based on the deadly sin sloth. House of Sloth was on display in the DISplay space of NP3 | RE:Search:Gallery throughout the summer of 2023.

Ra’fat invites audiences to engage in and (re)write narratives that intersect with ideologies and identities. Katie (winner LAND Stipend) asks for structural change in both the cultural sector and dominant economics. Together their work aims to rewrite and reclaim, and for their November presentation they have decided to collaborate on the overlaps of their political and vulnerable themes and research.

Their research explores the interplay between movement, sound and space. Besides the influence of the artists involved, the space and the ever-changing acoustics of the room play a role in the final form.
Alesya and Max collaborate with local and international multidisciplinary artists from different backgrounds - including performance art, sound art, martial arts and street and club dance. The interaction between contemporary art and urban culture are important sources of inspiration.
